The Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) Ladies hammered the Transport Sports Club team by eight wickets when the Brainstreet Under-15 cricket tournament continued yesterday at the Muslim Youth Organization ground.
Batting first Transport were routed for 72 in 15 overs thanks to brilliant bowling from swing bowler Onika Wallerson who had match figures of four overs, one maiden and five wickets for nine runs. None of the Transport batsmen were able to cope with the bowling or fielding of the ladies who tied them down, cutting off singles and preventing boundaries. The ladies also ensured that none of the Transport players got their eyes in as they made inroads into the batting line at regular intervals.
Akeal Hiles (20) was the only player to offer resistance as wickets fell around him. Chasing 72 to win from their allotted 50 overs the ladies came out with guns blazing as their openers Latoya Smith (27) and Akaze Thompson (16 not-out) putting on a 34 run partnership for the first wicket.
Shots all around the ground and quick running between the wickets ensured the GCA Ladies a victory as they knocked off their target in 10 overs losing just two wickets in the process.
Colin Barlow 1-9 and Sivana Nauth 1-22 were the wicket takers for Transport. The ladies will be looking to continue their good run as they take on tournament champs DCC ‘A’ on the Demerara Cricket Club ground in Queenstown on Wednesday.
