Dear Editor,
I am an overseas-based Guyanese, who has an account with the NBS, Georgetown branch. I did not close my account when I migrated since I have a decent sum of money and wanted to save it.
Being overseas I did not get to bank often. My last transaction was done in 2011. However my mom visited Guyana a week ago and tried to put money in my account.
She was informed by a teller that she has to be authorised to put money in my account. She was surprised at this and so wanted to know why.
The teller then informed my mom that she will consult with the manager. After consulting with the manager, she informed my mother that my account is dormant and so she cannot put money in my account.
I had the understanding that you have to bank in your account in order to make it active.
NBS did not send me any letter (at address that was given) stating the status of my account.
I would like to know if NBS has new policies that prevent people from banking money in their account (not withdrawing), and not informing customers about their account.
Yours faithfully,
(Name and address supplied)
