A man was released on self-bail after he was charged with throwing powder on a police inspector, when he yesterday appeared in court before Magistrate Judy Latchman.
It is alleged that on March 27, at Station Street, Kitty, Rohan Gursahai unlawfully assaulted Inspector Coreen Marshall, a peace officer acting in execution of her duties.
Gursahai who was unrepresented by counsel, pleaded guilty to the charge when it was read to him in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
The 51-year-old man offered the court an explanation as to why he is charged with the offence.
Gursahai said he had been standing on the road and he jammed the officer and a little powder got on to her cheeks. He also said that he apologized to the officer.
After hearing his explanation, the magistrate entered a plea of not guilty for him.
Police Sergeant Vishnu Hunt did not object to the defendant being granted bail.
The magistrate subsequently sent him on his own recognizance.
Gursahai was ordered to return to court on May 10.
