Dear Editor,
I read in the Stabroek News edition of April 2nd the story on cable licences. I must note a few things that I am aware of and are facts that are verifiable. Anthony Vieira was a part of Brian Yong’s operation. His equipment together with Yong’s expertise and investment was used to set up Moviestar. This operation was located at Versailles (Vieira’s Transmission Site) and still is today. Knowing the shrewd and capable businessperson Vieira is I doubt that he would have done this to help Yong. He would have had to have some part in the business venture that would see his fair share of returns on the use of his property, towers and satellite equipment.
My next point would be the report carried by Stabroek News. I was a StabroekTV subscriber up until 2011 and StabroekTV had a monopoly on pay TV services for almost a decade. You were required to pay one year upfront subscription and an installation fee of over 100,000 Guyana dollars. There were many times when channels would go down for weeks and we would be told this was because of problems with the system in Trinidad. Today you can subscribe for StabroekTV services for almost the same as other local providers, a reduction of a few 100%. Competition is always good for the consumer.
Like any other Guyanese when SportsMax was offered by StabroekTV I was interested. The monthly subscription was $6,000 for the single channel. Yet the other providers offered this channel as part of a Sports Package for less than half of that amount and endorsed by SportsMax.
The above facts are undeniable I would like Mr. Vieira to respond to his involvement in Mr. Brian Yong’s operation. Did he sell his shares the same time he migrated and would have sold his other interests to the Ramroop Group for a handsome sum?
Yours faithfully,
