Runner-up Junior Sportswoman of the Year, Priyanna Ramdhani secured Guyana’s only gold medal when the Suriname International Easter badminton tournament, played at the Walter Amo Sports Hall, concluded on Sunday.
The Guyana contingent ended with seven medals one gold, one silver and three bronze.
Ramdhani, competing in the girls’ U13 category defeated Imani Mangroe 21-9, 2-8 in the final continuing the trend of not dropping a set in the competition. Her brother Narayan, 14-years-old, won a silver medal in the boys’ U17 category after he was defeated 13-21, 16-21 by Soren Opti in the final.
Bronze medals were won by Ambika Ramraj, Jea Ramsammy and the mixed doubles pair of Narayan and Priyanna Ramdhani.
Ramraj lost to S. Lindveld, 6-21, 10-21 in the girls’U17 semi-finals while Ramsammy lost to Viviane Chen 3-21, 8-21 in the girls’ U17 semis.
Narayan and Priyanna Ramdhani got bronze in the Under-19 mixed doubles when they lost to Mitch Nai Chung Tong and Santusha Ramzan, 16-21, 10-21.
