Guyana’s leading military men will clash on the cricket field this weekend in the Hadi’s World Incorporated division one, two-day competition when the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) hosts the Police Sports Club at Camp Ayanganna.
Umpires Colin Alfred and Matthew Kissoon will call play at the usual 9:30 hrs.
The two teams meet in a match that could see one side make a useful climb in the points table.
GDF averages 12 and one half points per game and have 50 points from four matches while Police have 65 points from 5 matches.
However, an outright win could see GDF leapfrog Police in the points standings.
GDF has been the beneficiary of solid all round performances from Paul Castello, whose canny off spin has reaped several five wicket hauls while their batting has been bolstered by Marcus Watkins, Castello, Jeremiah Harris, and Travis Blyden.
Police’s batsmen have not enjoyed a bountiful season thus far, with Troy Benn their most successful cricketer so far with just 105 runs at an average of 21. Spinners Vishal Jaigobin and Pernell London both have 10 wickets, but the side will need to lift their game significantly if they are to pose a significant threat to the GDF.
