Speaker of the National Assembly Raphael Trotman today said that he had received a letter from APNU’s Richard Allen indicating that he has resigned as a parliamentarian.
Allen has been hospitalised since last Thursday after he collapsed in the House and had to be rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation in an ambulance. As the Speaker made the announcement those on the government side heckled ‘shame, shame’ and that he was “forced” to resign. Trotman said that the vacancy created by the resignation would be filled with someone extracted from APNU’s list of candidates in keeping with the relevant provisions.
With only a one-seat majority in Parliament, the opposition would need to have Allen replaced for it to be able to vote against budget allocations as it says it will.
