An ex-policeman was yesterday remanded to prison after he was charged with twice fraudulently obtaining a radio by pretending that he was a serving member of the Guyana Police Force (GPF), when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
Magistrate Judy Latchman heard that on April 6, Kasie Moloney, 21, of Caesar Street, Agricola, with the intent to defraud, obtained from the operations room at the Brickdam Police Station, a hand-held radio set by falsely pretending that he was still a serving member of the GPF.
It was also alleged that on April 7 at the Brickdam Police Station, he committed the same offence again.
Moloney pleaded not guilty to both charges when they were read to him.
The prosecutor, Police sergeant Vishnu Hunt in relating the facts of the matter said that Moloney was an ex-member of the Guyana Police Force.
He said that on the days in question, he pretended to still be a serving member of the police force and signed to collect the radio set posing as a police constable.
Moloney was represented by Attorney-at-law Paul Fung-a-Fat who asked that his client be released on bail on the grounds that he poses no risk of flight.
Hunt objected to bail citing the penalty attached to such an offence. He also pointed out to the court that he is afraid that if Moloney is released on bail he might not return to stand trial.
His matter continues on April 24.
