The Guyana Medical Relief organisation this week donated an emergency air shipment of medication valued about US$400,000 to assist in alleviating a recent shortage at the Mahaicony, Suddie, Bartica, Linden and New Amsterdam hospitals and their outlying health centres.
At the Bartica hospital the administrator, Ms Ferrier, said that the supply of medication was timely and will enable the hospital to continue to supply patients.
Recently, the organisation also embarked on a programme to supply school children with shoes twice per year. This project is being done in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and the various education departments in the 10 Administrative Regions.
Guyana Medical Relief, a registered non-profit organisation, based in Los Angeles, California has been assisting the health care system in Guyana for the past 29 years by donating supplies and medicines to various hospitals. This organisation has also built VIA (cervical cancer screening) clinics at two hospitals in an effort to improve women’s access to health care.
