Nikita Miller teamed up with Odean Brown to bowl defending champions Jamaica to a 215-run win over Guyana on the third day of their West Indies Cricket Board four day competition at the Providence National Stadium.
Left-arm orthodox spinner Miller bagged 4-49 and leg-spinner Brown 4-54 as the Guyanese; chasing 370 for victory were dismissed for 155.
In front of a sprinkling of spectators, Jamaica resumed yesterday morning on 183-5 and eventually declared at 257-8 before lunch with wicketkeeper Carlton Baugh Jr., making the top score of 99.
Baugh Jr., and Blackwood, resuming on 59 and 41 respectively, put on 138 for the sixth wicket.
Blackwood, who was first to go made 57 with three fours before he was bowled by off-spinner Steven Jacobs.
Baugh Jr., struck nine fours and one six from 143 balls before he was run out by a direct hit from Narsingh Deonarine while attempting to sneak a single.
After Miller was dismissed by skipper Veerasammy Permaul for 8 the Jamaicans declared. Brown was left not out on 7 while Andrew Richardson was yet to come off the mark.
Jacobs ended with 4-61 and Permaul 3-64.
The Guyanese were off to a bad start chasing 370, losing their first wicket, that of Assad Fudadin, with only six runs on the board.
Fudadin was lbw to fast bowler Richardson for 3 on the stroke of lunch leaving Guyana 6-1.
His opening partner Chanderpaul Hemraj, was next to go, caught behind by Brenton Parchment (who took over the gloves for a short period) off the bowling of Dave Bernard Jr.
Left hander Johnson and Deonarine took Guyana to the tea interval at 59-2 with Deonarine on 23 and Johnson on 30.
Deonarine was dismissed immediately after lunch for 27 when he popped a return catch off a leading edge back to Brown breaking a third wicket stand of 43 with Johnson.
Wicketkeeper Anthony Bramble joined Johnson but after making 18 edged a delivery from Miller to Danza Hyatt at first slip.
When Johnson, who looked well set on his way towards that elusive first regional ton, was bowled by Miller for a defiant 70, it was all over barring the shouting.
Johnson batted for nearly two hours, faced 174 balls and struck five fours.
Following Johnson’s dismissal the innings quickly subsided.
Jacobs fell for 12 and Rajendra Chandrika fell to a catch by Richardson off the bowling of Miller for 5.
Devendra Bishoo (01), Permaul (06) and Keon Joseph (1) soon followed leaving Ronsford Beaton unbeaten on 5.
Baugh Jr., was named Man-of-the Match for his scores of 81 and 99.
