Dear Editor,
My fight for a clean Georgetown is humanitarian and not political. I am soliciting all sides to act in a bi-partisan way, without political acrimony. The health, beautification and image of our nation are at stake.
I have many concerns that have festered in my thoughts and need to be released. I have concerns about the drainage situation in Georgetown and surrounding areas, and its impact on tourism and health. I am concerned about the plight of the homeless and housing for them. I have concerns about mental health issues relative to the homeless. I am concerned about the number of homeless people sleeping on the streets.
I am concerned about the abundance of uncollected garbage and the lack of means for collection and disposal. I am concerned about the callous attitudes of locals towards proper sanitation and disposal. I am concerned about the lack of proper facilities for waste management. I am concerned about the deplorable conditions of Le Repentir Cemetery and its environs. I am concerned about the total lack of respect for a cemetery where most Christians are buried.
I am concerned about the proliferation of squatter housing in parts of the La Penitence/Ruimveldt area. I am concerned about the moral breakdown in my beloved country. I am concerned about the structural decay of homes in the poorer communities. I am very much concerned about the socio-economic disparities in the country.
I am concerned about the lack of jobs and absence of moral direction for our youths. I’m very concerned for our country.
Yours faithfully,
Lloyd Phillips
