Guyana’s newest insurance company, Assuria, has once again flexed its corporate muscle in support of a discipline locally.
Yesterday, at the company’s Church Street head office, it’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Dick Wesenhagen, presented a sponsorship cheque to the president of the Guyana Boxing Board of Control (GBBC), Peter Abdool to aid in Saturday night’s mega card dubbed ‘Fire Storm’ which will be staged at the Princess Hotel. In brief remarks, Wesenhagen stated:“It is an honor and a pleasure for Assuria, Guyana, to be part of the sponsorship for the exiting and unique boxing event.” He added:“The management of Assuria, the newest insurance company in Guyana, has considered that the GBBC has always delivered highly entertaining cards with a superb level of sportsmanship and an astonishing track record of safety and security with respect to the health of the competitors in the ring.”
Abdool, in reply, thanked the company for its sponsorship and also mentioned that he was looking forward to a long and satisfying branding relationship with the company.
Other sponsors for the card include Digicel, Banks DIH Limited, Ansa McAL, Guyoil, Giftland Office Max and Courts Guyana Inc. Saturday night’s event will be headlined by arguably Guyana best pound-for-pound boxer, Clive ‘The Punisher’ Atwell and Venezuelan knockout artist, Raphael Hernandez for the vacant CABOFE featherweight title.
Other bouts on the card will see super middleweights Mahmood ‘The Extractor’ Loul and Derrick Richmond going at it through a scheduled four rounder.
Gladwin Dorway will take on Mark Austin for the vacant junior middleweight championship, Elton ‘The Bully’ Dharry versus Orlan ‘Pocket Rocket’ Rogers for the vacant national bantamweight title and Howard ‘Battersea Bomber’ Eastman versus Jamaica, Sakima Mullings for the vacant CABOFE welterweight crown.
Rogers replaced Hewley Robertson after the latter suffered a shoulder injury during training last Tuesday.
VIP tickets will cost $10,000 while ringside and outer ringside will cost $5000 and $2500 respectively.
Bell time is 20:00hrs.
