Magistrate Judy Latchman granted a man accused of uttering a forged driver’s licence $200,000 bail when he yesterday appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
Kem Singh, 37, of 67 D’urban Street, Wortmanville, pleaded not guilty to the charges of conspiracy and uttering a forged document when they were read to him.
It is alleged that on April 14, at Georgetown, Singh with intent to defraud, uttered to a cadet officer a forged driver’s licence in favour of himself purporting to show that the same was issued by the Licence Department of the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA).
It was further alleged that between December 6, 2012 and April 14 at Georgetown, Singh conspired with a person or persons unknown to insert ‘bike’ on his Republic of Guyana driver’s licence purporting to show that the same was issued by the Licence Department of the GRA.
His attorney, Paul Fung-a-Fat, asked that Singh be granted bail in a reasonable sum. He told the court that his client poses no flight risk and that he has no antecedents.
The case was prosecuted by Police Sergeant Vishnu Hunt who had no objections to bail.
Singh was granted $100,000 on each charge.
He was ordered to appear in court on April 30.
