The opposition tonight made the first of a series of anticipated budget cuts to the proposed Specialty Hospital.
The House voted on the item in the amount of $ 1.250 billion.
The Government first sought to circumvent APNU MP Carl Greenidge’s motion to amend by pointing out that it might not have met the requirements of the Standing Order of having been laid one clear day prior to the date it is to be considered. This, the Clerk of the National Assembly concurred with, and Greenidge’s motion was disallowed.
However, AFC’s Khemraj Ramjattan pointed out that he had a motion submitted on Friday which had to have met the requirements. On this basis the cuts were effected.
Members of the Opposition remained unconvinced that the project was a transparent one.
