Police say that 11 men were arrested on Tuesday after a search of the motor lorry they were travelling in turned up an AK-47 rifle with 12 rounds. ‘
In a release, police said that ranks stationed at the checkpoint at 70Kms Buckhall, conducted a search on a motor lorry and found the weapon and accompanying ammunition.
All 11 men have been arrested and are said to be in police custody assisting with investigations.
The appearance of the AK-47 will likely spark jitters. AK-47s were the weapon of choice during the crime spree from 2007. It was compounded by the loss of 30 such weapons from the army. Some of those were eventually recovered.
