Much to the dismay of the Government, the combined opposition this afternoon voted to cut funds provided for in the 2013 budget for the Government Information Agency (GINA) and the National Communications Network (NCN).
Under the 2013 budget GINA was slated to receive $135,858,000, while NCN was to receive 81,337,000 to supplement their operations. However, the Alliance For Change (AFC) as well as A Partnership for National Unity (APNU), unconvinced that the agencies required the amounts proposed, voted to cut all but $1 from each entity.
Last year, similar cuts by the opposition failed to curtail the operations of NCN and GINA. The opposition has argued that the two agencies propagandize on behalf of the government and do not give fair or adequate coverage to the opposition.
