Nicosi Gittens, 18, was on Monday released on $30,000 bail after he denied stealing a gold chain and pendant.
It is alleged that on April 12, in Georgetown. Gittens, a labourer, of Lot 29 Laing Avenue, stole a gold chain with pendant, valued $144,000 and property of Tiandi Clarke. No further details of what transpired on the date in question were provided to the court.
Gittens pleaded not guilty and his attorney Paul Fung-a-Fat said that nothing was found on his client and that he was taken to the Diamond Police Station and allegedly beaten by police officers to provide a caution statement.
The prosecution had no objections to bail but asked that the accused lodge all of his travel documents with the police and report to the Brickdam Police Station every Monday and Friday morning.
Magistrate Allan Wilson, who presided over the matter at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, granted bail with the conditions sought by the prosecution. The case was subsequently adjourned until April 25 for reports and fixtures.
