Essequibo’s poor babbting performance in the Guyana Cricket Board Limacol-sponsored Inter-County U15 cricket tournament continued yesterday at the Wales Community Development centre ground when they were dismissed for 66 by Demerara.
Bowled out for a paltry 17 in their second innings against Berbice in the first round, Essequibo poor batting continued after they won the toss and elected to take first strike.
Mark Williams with 16 and Randy Ruplall with 15 were the top scorers as Ashmead Nedd grabbed three wickets and Sagar Hathairamani two.
Demerara ended their first innings on 149/9 for a lead of 83.
Ronaldo Mohamed top scored with 35 while Stephan Campbell made 29 and Joel McAlister 22.
Christopher Latchman, Redell Reddy and Sachin Persaud each picked up two wickets bowling for Essequibo.
Batting a second time Essequibo did not fare much better and were wobbling on 45 for 5 after 24 overs at stumps. Williams was on 20 not out while Timothy McAlmont and Kelvin Shewpersaud picked up two wickets each.
Over at the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) ground, the President’s XI
crashed to 99 all out with Raymond Perez, 39 and Darshan Persaud, 17, the principal scorers.
No other batsman reached double figures.
Joshua Goblin grabbed 3 for 22 from eight overs and Sylus Tyndall taking 2 for 21.
Berbice reached 125/9 at the end of their allotted 44 overs. Opener Adrian Suloway slammed an attractive 42, while Skipper Joshua Harrichand chipped in with 14 and Joel Seetaram 12.
Richie Lucknauth, Vickram Talmakund and Asif Ally captured two wickets each for the President’s XI.
Batting a second time, the President’s XI fared much better and were 68/1 from 27 overs for an overall lead of 32 with nine second innings wickets intact.
Persaud made 11 while Perez 44 not out looks set for a half century.
Action continues tomorrow at 10:00 hours at both venues.
