An Albouystown resident was yesterday remanded to prison after he was twice charged with robbery under-arms, when he appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman.
Colin Peters, 19, denied the allegations which stated that on April 7, at East La Penitence, while being armed with a gun he robbed André Smith of a gold chain valued $100,000. It was furth
er alleged that on the same day at the same location he also robbed Tyrone Wong of seven gold chains valued $1,200,000, and four gold and silver bands valued $160,000, all totalling $1,360,000.
Peters pleaded not guilty to the charges when they were read to him at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
No facts about what transpired on the day in question were related to the court.
Attorney-at-law Paul Fung-a-Fat asked that Peters be released on bail since he has a fixed place of abode at 134 Victoria Street, Albouystown. He said that he is a mason and the father of one.
Counsel added that his client had had one court matter before but it had been dismissed.
The prosecutor, Police sergeant Vishnu Hunt objected to bail citing the nature and seriousness of the offence and the punishment that it attracts if the defendant is found guilty.
Hunt further added that if Peters is to be released on bail he might not return to court to stand trial.
He was subsequently remanded to prison and the magistrate asked the prosecution to summon the complainants who had not attended court.
The matter will continue on April 30.
