The crème de le crème of the nation’s bikers will battle for pole position on the West Demerara roadway tomorrow when national cycling coach Hassan Mohamed and Banks DIH Limited stage the Powerade 50-mile road race.
The second annual event under the Powerade brand is scheduled to pedal off at 08:00hrs from Wales Police Station proceed to Bushy Park on the East Bank of Essequibo, before returning to the Demerara Harbour Bridge for the finish.
The veterans, mountain bikers and female riders will turn back at the Uitvlugt Community Centre on the upward journey and finish at the Demerara Harbour Bridge.
The first six finishers in the Open category, top three juniors, veterans, mountain bikers and females, and the first veteran over-60 years to cross the finish line will receive prizes. Eight prime prizes will be up for grabs during the race.
Former national rider, Jude Bentley is set to defend his title in the Open category having won last year’s edition in a time of one hour, 54 minutes and 55 seconds.
Michael Anthony and Talim Shaw were the first junior and veteran finishers respectively last year.
Banks DIH Outdoor Events Manager, Mortimer Stewart and other executives of the company are expected to assist in the presentation of prizes at the race’s conclusion.
