In the only match of the Georgetown Cricket Association/Hadi’s World Incorporated first-division competition scheduled for this weekend, Police Sports Club will be hosted by the Malteenoes Sports Club with umpires Hortence Isaacs and Cyril Garnath starting proceedings at 9:30am each day.
Police, though buoyed by winning the second-division, two-day competition, which came on the back of them winning more outright matches than their rivals in the drawn match, the Georgetown Cricket Club, have not been as successful at the first-division level.
They will, however, be confident of beating a Malteenoes team in transition with the absence of senior players such as Steven Jacobs, Deon Ferrier, Kellon Carmichael and Danny Narayan.
The absence of the stars has resulted in the club fielding a significantly younger side which has struggled for consistency and has suffered losses to Gandhi Youth Organization and Transport Sports Club.
When the sides last met in the limited overs Haier Cup, Police delivered a first round knock out to the current two-day champions and will be eager to repeat the feat.
