Clinton Williams was unanimously re-elected as president of the Guyana Manufacturing and Services Association (GMSA) when the board held elections recently.
According to a press release from the GMSA, Williams was returned to the top post having previously served two consecutive terms and then demitting the post last year. However, last year’s president Mohindra Chand of Barama Company did not seek re-election.
The release said board members were unanimous in their conviction that the previous two terms served by Williams had seen a number of successes, which gave the GMSA international recognition and brought in foreign technicl expertise and funding for Guyanese micro, small and medium sized businesses. “The result was the reappearance of highly improved Guyanese products on Caribbean and North American markets,” the release said.
It quoted Williams as saying, after the board’s rousing “welcome back”, that he was committing himself to ensuring the gains the GMSA had accomplished and the alliances formed continued to work for enterprises across the business sector.
He said too that the board will continue to monitor the current parliamentary proceedings and will respond “appropriately and effectively” to those issues that affect the association’s members as well as the national interest.
He noted that business security was a top priority and plans were put in place to re-commission the GMSA’s Governance and Security Committee.
Meanwhile, the release said, Williams announced that Chand would head the GMSA’s Forestry and Wood Products sub-sector; Mark Bender of TCL Guyana would head the Construction and Engineering sub-sector; Malisa Nokta of Environmental Consultants would head Services; Bowan Balkarran of Essential Supplies and Clear Waters would head Agro-processing and Clement Duncan of Swansea Industrial Associates would head Trade and Investment.
Meanwhile, the other board members are Ramsay Ali of Sterling Products, first vice-president; Luanna Persaud of Qualfon Guyana, second VP; Autamaram Lakeram of Namilco, third VP; Peter Pompey of BACIF; Ramesh Dookhoo of Banks DIH Ltd; Chandradat Chintamani of DDL; Yonette Jeffers of Laparkan Trading and Winston Patokie of Caribbean Containers Ltd, the release said.
