Trucks parked at the sides of the road in BV may have once again led to an accident which this time left a man nursing injuries at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPHC).
Reports say that Mark Anthony Griffith was making his was down Quamina Street, Beterverwagting (BV), East Coast Demerara when a car, also entering the street, struck the back wheel of his cycle sending him crashing to the ground.
Occupants of the car at the time of the accident said that the driver’s sight was impaired by trucks which were parked on the arms of the embankment, and very close to Quamina Street. The passengers said that as they were turning into Quamina Street their vision was impaired, which resulted in Griffith being hit.
They said that after the accident, the car’s driver transported Griffith to the GPHC where he continued to receive medical attention up to late last evening.
Just last September, Abdul Zameer Abrahim of Chateau Margot lost his life after he was hit by a speeding truck near Chimney Street, Chateau Margot, ECD. Residents of the area had blamed this accident, along with several others which occurred in the area, on the hampered visibility caused by the parking of heavy-duty trucks on the shoulders of the embankment.
The residents had said that the trucks, which are at time double parked, are sometimes parked very close to the intersection of Chimney Street and the Embankment hampering the line of sight from both roads. The residents said that they had made several complaints, all of which seem to have fallen on deaf ears.
