A suspect in the shooting to death of South Ruimveldt businessman Orin Joseph was arrested last week but was later released on station bail, according to Crime Chief Seelall Persaud who said that the hunt is on for a second man.
Contacted for an update yesterday Persaud indicated that one of the two suspects identified had been arrested.
He noted that that although an arrest was made police have not made any much progress with the investigations surrounding the death of Joseph, who in addition to being the owner of a taxi service was also actively involved in dominoes.
Persaud had told this newspaper that police are looking at two lines of inquiry, one being that the man was killed during a robbery.
Reports are that two Sunday nights ago the man and his wife who is the president of the Georgetown Dominoes Federation held a competition at their lot 1223 Gaulin Place, South Ruimveldt home.
Shortly after the dominoes competition had ended the area was hit by a blackout and it was at this point that Joseph decided to retrieve the vehicles he had moved to facilitate the competition. The vehicles were parked on the roadway a short distance from his home.
Based on what this newspaper was told, when he arrived at the first car he was attacked by two men and after being relieved of some gold jewellery he was wearing, he was shot. The men then fled the scene on a CG motorcycle.
Joseph was rushed to the Georgetown Hospital where he later died.
Persaud said that in addition to the area being dark during the time of the incident investigators were also being hampered by the fact that there were no eyewitnesses to the attack.
Investigations are continuing.
