Rocky Richards, 21, of Mahdia was released on $50,000 bail yesterday after he was charged with possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
Richards denied the charge which stated that on April 20, at St Elizabeth Backdam, Mahdia he had in his possession 8 grammes of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking, when it was read to him by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.
Richards was unrepresented by an attorney at his court hearing.
The prosecution’s facts were as charged.
Police Prosecutor, Corporal Renetta Bentham objected to bail citing the nature and seriousness of the offence and the punishment it attracts.
The magistrate overruled the prosecution’s request and granted Richards bail in the sum of $50,000.
The matter was transferred to the Mahdia Magistrates’ Court for July 17.
