A North Ruimveldt man was remanded to prison yesterday on a robbery under-arms charge.
It is alleged that on February 22, 2013 at Celina’s Resort on the Kitty Seawall, Dwayne Lawrence, 20, of 2499 Ozama Street, North Ruimveldt, while being in the company of another man, robbed Zang Ling Ling of an Apple iPhone valued $90,000, a BlackBerry cell phone valued $30,000 along with other items all totalling $206,000.
Lawrence who was unrepresented by an attorney pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
The prosecutor, Police Corporal Kerry Bostwick stated that on the day in question the virtual complainant (VC) was in the company of others, putting a television set into a car, when two men rode up on a bicycle, shot the VC in her leg and relieved her of the articles mentioned in the charge.
Bostwick objected to bail, pointing out that a gun was used to commit the robbery and citing the penalty that is attached to such an offence.
The prosecutor also stated that if Lawrence were to be released on bail he might not return to court to stand trial.
Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry remanded him to prison.
The matter was adjourned until May 3.
