Reynard Khan was yesterday refused bail on robbery under arms charges when he appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.
It was alleged that Khan of 147 Cooper Street, Albouystown on April 23, at D’Urban Street, in the company of others, robbed Lyn Moseley of a BlackBerry cell phone valued at $23,000 while he was armed with a gun.
It was further alleged that on the same day at D’Urban Street he robbed Chu Young of $130,000, while being armed with a gun.
Khan pleaded not guilty to the charges when they were read to him at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
The prosecutor, Police Corporal Seon Blackman told the court that Chu Young is the owner of a Chinese restaurant on D’Urban Street. He said that on the day in question at around 11:00hrs, the accused in the company of others held up Chu Young and Moseley with a gun and relieved them of the articles mentioned in the charges.
Blackman objected to bail citing the nature of the offence and the punishment it attracts. He further pointed out that a gun was used to commit the robbery.
Khan was subsequently remanded to prison.
The matter continues on May 3.
