Castellani House, the National Gallery of Art has announced the opening of an exhibition of miniature paintings and photographs entitled ‘Objects of Interest’ by artist Saneeya G. Kanga.
The opening took place on Thursday.
In a release, the National Gallery said Kanga came to Guyana with her husband, a diplomat at the US Embassy, in September 2011. She had previously studied painting at the Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture in Karachi, Pakistan and also obtained a Masters in Fine Art at the University of Cincinnati, USA.
Life in Georgetown and the scenery of interior locations with the lush flora and fauna inspired Kanga to take nature photographs and paint the miniatures which will be on exhibition.
The artist will give a power point presentation at Castellani House on May 2, at 6pm, on the ideas that inspired the production of her recent work.
The exhibition is open to the public from April 26 to May 11. The National Gallery opens from 10am to 5pm on Mondays to Friday and from 2 to 6pm on Saturdays. It is closed on Sundays and holidays. Admission is free, the release added.
