President of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Christopher Matthias has tendered his resignation as general secretary of the Georgetown Football Association (GFA) effective from May 1.
Matthias was elected president of the GFF on April 12 at the annual general meeting and election of office bearers replacing former president Colin Klass who has been banned by the world governing body FIFA.
In January, following a visit to Guyana by a joint FIFA/CONCACAF delegation which brought to an end the impasse between the GFF and the GFA, Matthias was elected General Secretary of the GFA and Lieutenant Commander Vernon Burnett GFA president at the elections held on January 12 at Olympic House, High Street. In his letter of resignation which he carbon copied to GFF General Secretary Noel Adonis and GFA president Burnett, Matthias wrote:” I hereby tender my resignation as General Secretary of the Georgetown Football Association, with effect from Wednesday May 1, 2013.
“This is as a result of my elevation to the office of President of the Guyana Football Federation which requires of me the management of the development of the Federation consisting of nine (9) Associations and three (3) Affiliates.
I take this opportunity to express my heartfelt gratitude to the executives and members of the Georgetown Football Association for the opportunity of having being able to serve as the General Secretary of this honorable institution. Moreover, I am eternally grateful for the trust and confidence reposed in my nomination as President of the Guyana Football Federation by the said Association.
I have no doubt that the usual tangible support will continue unabated as we, the newly elected executives, seek to manage, with God’s Guidance, the development of the Guyana Football Federation.”
