Dear Editor,
Not so long ago, I wrote a letter to Guyana’s media, suggesting that President Ramotar reduces his criticisms of opposition parties’ spokespersons, and instead follow the pattern of America’s President Obama and seek to indulge in reach-out exercises to leaders and members of the two major opposition parties.
Well, Editor, I am happy to see that within the last two weeks, two PPP/C officials are moving in that direction: MP Gail Teixeira has reportedly said that co-operation between the government and the opposition was critical for the county’s growth; and MP Irfaan Ali has reportedly called on the opposition to support the PPP/C’s budget proposals for the good of the Guyanese people.
The calls from those two MPs represent a start ‒ at least in words. I am certain that a majority of my fellow Guyanese are waiting to see what follow-up action the PPP/C is going to take in order to translate those parliamentarians’ words into meaningful action.
