Alpha United, through goals on either side of lemon time, hammered Buxton United 4-1 as action in the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) National Super League 2012/2013 season continued at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground Bourda on Sunday.
Opening the scoring for the league leader was mercurial winger Dwight Peters who converted in the 30th minute while Alpha doubled their advantage ten minutes later through fellow wide man Gregory ‘Jackie Chan’ Richardson in the 40th minute.
The resulting demolition would continue in the second period as further goals by talismanic forward Anthony ‘Awo’ Abrams and midfield playmaker Travis ‘Zorro’ Grant in the 55th and 77th minutes respectively would effectively put the contest to bed. Shawn Campbell netted for the losing East Coast unit in the fifty seventh minute.
In a post game comment, coach of the victorious Alpha United side Wayne Dover stated.. “Overall it was a good team performance and I am satisfied with the effort and encouraged by the showing. It was good to see us scoring goals because in recent times it has been a struggle. Buxton played well, they were very organized and it’s good to see some young talents coming up.”
Over at the Beterverwagting (BV) ground, East Coast Demerara home side BV/ Triumph United (BV/TU) needled West Demerara unit Uitvlugt Warriors through a Shawn Daniels’ tenth minute strike.
In Berbice at the Blairmont Community Centre ground (BCC) Rosignol United was forced to abandon their scheduled encounter with Georgetown unit Pele FC due to the inclement weather.
