It was an all-round success for Success Elementary School yesterday afternoon at the Guyana Musical Arts Festival 2013 session at the National Cultural Centre.
Success Elementary School which entered under the Class 5A Primary School Choirs category with three entries; Success Elementary School A, Success Elementary School B and Success Elementary Mixed Choir managed to cop the first, second and third places in that category.
At yesterday’s proceedings primary and secondary school students from a number of schools around Guyana got a chance to showcase their artistic talents. The various categories included Pianoforte Solo, Recorder Solo, Choral Speaking, Verse Speaking, Soprano Solo, Dramatic Poetry, Tenor Solo, Baritone/Bass Solo and Junior Church Choir.
Some of the schools that participated in yesterday’s events were Winfer Garden Primary, Annandale Primary, Mae’s School, Josel Educational Institute, Mackenzie High, Annandale Secondary, Queen’s Colleges Literary Birds and Success Elementary.
At the opening session on Monday evening, Christian Bretheren Assembly won in Class 8C Church Choirs; Guyana Police Force Small Group in Class 9D Ensemble, while Loversa Tucker and Joveta Joseph took the top spot in Class 7G Ladies Vocal Duet. Majek Fingers Drumming School and Otishka Drummers were first and third respectively in Class 10C Folk Song Group, while Majek Fingers Drumming School, the Hebrew Family of Guyana and Otishka Drummers Group were first, second and third in Class 10D Ethnic Music – Drumming.
The festival is scheduled to conclude on May 4 when prizes and certificates will also be awarded.
The event is being held under the patronage of Minister of Culture Dr Frank Anthony in collaboration with the Guyana Music Arts Festival Inc, the Music Teachers Association, the Woodside Choir International, and the Partners Programme of the Lutheran Churches of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Guyana.
