Universal DVD Club Titans were crowned the new Berbice Softball Alliance (BSA) 10/10 softball cricket champions after wins in the four team organised matches held at the Bath Settlement ground on Labour Day.
Universal DVD Club Titans were sent in to bat first by a confident Karibee Rice team. They managed 88 for 7, thanks in part to Samaroo (25) and Seenanand (19) not out who led the batting.
Leon Gurdyall and Javed Mohamed took 3 wickets each for 10 and 17 runs respectively.
Karibee in their reply were bowled out for 39 off 7.1 overs, as Rajendra Sookdeo Seenanand, Chandrasekhar Arjune and Poonu took 2 wickets each.
Karibbe Rice then made a dramatic comeback against Blairmont Number 4. Asked to bat first, Karibee Rice scored 120 for 9 from their 10 overs. Mahendranauth Sooklall (33) and Sharmindra Hardyal (22) led with the bats. Vijai Farhad took 3 for 19 and Karamdat Bissoondyal supported with 2 for 21.
Blairmont Number 4 slumped to 80 for 7 in their reply. Farhad (15) and Bissoondyal (10) were the only batsmen to reach double figures. David Harilall took 2 for 8 for Karibee Rice.
Universal DVD Club Titans then faced Blairmont Number 1 in their virtual semi-final fixture. Taking first strike, the Titans scored an imposing 165 for 3 from their 10 overs.
Skipper Balram Samaroo’s robust 62 and Michael Ramdhial 16 ball 50 added 75 for the first wicket. Rameshwar Poonu contributed with 24. Khemraj Kannack took 2 for 24.
Blairmont Number 1 was bowled out for a paltry 16 from 8.1 overs, with Seenanand taking 3 for 5 and Poonu 2 for 1.
In the third place playoff of the male category, Blairmont Number 4 batted first and scored 170 for 3 from their 10 overs.
Wazid Subhan’s 55 of 16 balls which included seven sixes and a four, found support from Leon Saroopchand who smacked a 19-ball 42 and Bissoondyal chipped in 41. B. Basdeo took 2 for 24.
Blairmont Number 1 were limited to 59 for 6 in reply, with Sohanlall Bissoondyal top scoring with a run a ball 24. Karamdat Bissoondyal took 2 for 16 for Blairmont Number 4, which won by 111 runs.
The female exhibition matches between Blairmont and Ithaca, saw the former winning by seven wickets, thanks to Sabrina Singh’s impressive bowling performance.
Sabrina Singh took 3 for 14 and made 17 for Blairmont Girls who reached 41 for 3 from 4.3 overs. Somawatty Kudrathall contributed with 11, as the victors took home a trophy and $30,000 and the losers a trophy and $20,000.
The victorious Universal DVD Club Titans lineup took home $70,000 and a trophy, Karibee Rice $30,000 and a trophy and Blairmont Number 1 and 4 teams, a trophy each for their efforts, while Seenanand also received a trophy.
