The Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) has been forced to temporarily relocate its paediatric ward due to an invasion of German cockroaches.
In a press release, the hospital said the infestation is due to the heavy rainfall and a decision was taken to relocate the pediatric ward to the old OB/GYN clinic for the weekend. “This move is to facilitate the extermination of these pests,” the release said.
The GPHC also gave assurances that the temporary shift will in no way affect treatment protocols and apologizes to the children and their parents for the inconvenience.
In 2011, the female ward of the hospital was also plagued by an infestation of these pests. At that time the hospital had said that one of the contributing factors to this problem was that food remnants were often left on the wards.
