Dear Editor,
I have been trying to find out how a shopkeeper in the interior may legally buy gold from miners in the region. It is not easy to learn what documentation the law requires to buy and sell raw gold. Now I see that mercury has been found in the urine of jewellers. I would like to know how to protect my health and what laws there are affecting my business with goldminers.
Yours faithfully,
Norma Benjamin
Editor’s note
Ms Benjamin should contact the Guyana Gold Board for information on the law governing the buying and selling of gold.
The Guyana Geology and Mines Commission should assist in relation to other regulations.
