CHESTER-LE-STREET, England, CMC – Former Jamaica captain Gareth Breese’s unbeaten 41 was not enough to prevent Durham from slipping to a four-wicket defeat to Essex in the Yorkshire Bank 40 here yesterday.
The 37-year-old, who played a single Test for West Indies in 2002, faced 38 balls and struck four fours and a six, to help Durham to 209 for five, after they were sent in.
They were 140 for five in the 31st over before Breese and Gordon Muchall (49 not out), put on 69 in an unbroken sixth wicket stand.
In reply, openers Tom Westley (71) and Rob Quiney (50) set Essex on their way to victory with an opening stand of 103.
Breese send down two overs for ten runs.
