In excess of 30 chiseled physiques will invade the Theatre Guild stage when the Guyana Amateur Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation (GABBFF) hold its annual Novices Championships dubbed ‘Muscle Invasion’ on May 12.
During the launch of the event which was held at the Wind Jammer International Hotel on Saturday, it was also disclosed that the musclemen and women will compete for cash prizes, trophies and supplement hampers from Fitness Express .
“We are looking to start rewarding the athletes with not just trophies and hampers but with cash prizes as well” stated GABBFF president, Keavon Bess.
The male bodybuilders will vie for supremacy in the Under 132 pounds , under 143, under 154, under 164, over 176 and the Master’s category (over 40 years) while the females will compete in the Ms. Physique and Ms. Body Fitness categories.
According to Organising Secretary of the federation, Videsh Sookram, “so far the feedback of the gyms and the public has been better than ever and we are hoping to pack the Theatre Guild.
“We have more females than we have had in a very long time and we expect them and the men to be at the peak of their conditioning,” Sookram declared.
Sookram added that a mass of striated muscle in the form of Mr. Barbados 2012, Stevenson Belle will be the guest poser for Muscle Invasion’.
Saturday’s launch also saw a new logo of the federation being unveiled. It was also announced that the Senior Championships will be staged at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall on July 20. A team of musclemen and women will then wing out for international competitions in September (Central American and Caribbean Bodybuilding Championships in the Dominican Republic) and November (Darcy Beckles in Barbados).
Also in November there will be a local competition dubbed ‘Muscle Explosion and Bikini Competition’. The GABBFF will bring the curtains down on its calendar of activities when the Flex Night Inc. show is hosted on December 8.
Showtime for ‘Muscle Invasion’ is 19:00hrs and tickets will cost $1500.
At Saturday’s launch, Bess also gave a recap of last year’s highs and lows and spoke about the need for more sponsorship for the sport.
