The decomposed body of the woman, who was found on the foreshore at Vriesland, West Bank Demerara on Sunday, was identified yesterday as that of Danatuta Durban.
Her mother, Meagan, identified her remains at the Ezekiel Funeral Home.
Durban was 28-years-old and was a mother of two. She was said to be mentally challenged and used to wander about the place.
Her mother said that she last saw her daughter about two weeks before she died. She said that she did not see her after and as such she made a missing person report to the police.
She added that after the report was made, she received a call from someone informing her that a body had been found. She said that they then went down to the funeral parlour and identified her body.
She also stated that she is not sure what resulted in her daughter’s death.
Durant’s two children, ages 6 and 1, had been staying with relatives due to her mental state. A post-mortem examination will be done today to determine the cause of death.
