The University of Guyana (UG) basketball team on Monday edged the Guyana School of Agriculture (GSA) 29-27 in an U-20 encounter of the East Coast Conference of the Youth Basketball Guyana (YBG) National Schools’ Basketball Festival (NSBF) at the Mon Repos Primary School Basketball Court.
Quincy Easton led the Turkeyen unit’s charge with nine points while team mate Jonathan Pooran contributed six points and three assists. Leading all scorers in a losing effort was Emmanuel Archibald who netted 15 points while Keilon Sullivan chipped with nine points and pulled down 15 rebounds for GSA.
In the lone U-17 match, Plaisance Secondary, led by a Terrence Daniels 10-point effort, defeated Bladen Hall Secondary 32-10. Daniels received ample support from colleague Delon Lewis who scored eight points and picked up four rebounds. Omar Rose netted four points in a losing effort.
Over on the East Bank of Demerara, at the commencement of the East Bank Conference at the Sonata Point Basketball Court Grove, Grove Cluster (a combined team) led by an all-round Shamar Thomas performance, routed Covent Garden Secondary 35-12.
Thomas scored 10 points pulled in five rebounds and had three assists in the lopsided victory while teammates Keith Forde and Ruel Forde contributed nine and eight points respectively. Trevon Gaskin netted four points for the losing Covent Garden unit.
