Twenty-six single parents and youths in Region Five are now geared for the “world of works” after completing a five-week empowerment training programme during November and December 2012 in basic office ethics.
The students graduated at a simple ceremony held at the region’s boardroom at Fort Wellington, West Coast Berbice on Wednesday. The graduation was chaired by Owen Pollard, Regional Education Officer.
The programme, held at the Bath Skills Training Centre was funded by Basic Needs Trust Fund and conducted by Sewram Sewlochan.
It offered courses in office ethics/code of conduct at work place, building self-esteem, maintaining positive image through good hygiene, mannerism and behaviour, overview of good time management and communication skills.
The students also completed courses in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Power-point, Publisher, Outlook and basic computer repairs. Upon completion of each course students were given both theory and practical evaluations.
Trophies were presented to the best graduating student; Mandakini Koomalram, most improved student; Krishna Balkaran and to another student for her persever-ance; Deomatie Teekaram.
