More than three hundred patients benefited from a free medical outreach organised by the Central Islamic Organisation of Guyana (CIOG) in collaboration with the Health Ministry last weekend on the Essequibo Coast.
The medical outreach was held at the Al Masina Islamic Academy in Anna Regina where doctors from the Ministry of Health treated patients suffering from diabetes and hypertension; and a dentist from the Cheddi Jagan Dental School did several extractions. Other patients had their eyes tested and children received vitamin syrup.
A statement from the CIOG said the medical outreach was aimed at sensitising residents of Essequibo coast in the importance of hygiene, diet and other health issues.
It said that the CIOG’s role was to complement the government in ensuring that health care reaches the underserved.
