No objections to $370M water, housing contracts

HPS and Cabinet Secretary Dr Roger Luncheon announced that no objections were offered for 12 contracts in the several sectors, including five in the housing and water sectors valued over $370M, at Cabinet’s statutory meeting held on Wednesday.

According to a GINA report, Luncheon at his post-Cabinet press briefing said a $221.3M contract for the building and rehabilitation of roads in La Parfaite Harmonie, Region Three was given the go-ahead. The contract falls under the Second Low Income Settlement Programme (LIS) the release said.

A $49.2M contract for the construction and upgrading of roads at Section D, Sophia and a $38.7M contract for the construction of 18 core homes at Block B, Tuschen, Region Three, under the second LIS, were also green-lighted.

A $40.86M contract for the construction of 19 core homes at Recht-Door-Zee, phase two, and a $23.8M contract for the building of 10 core homes at Recht-Door-Zee, phase one, were also given the go-ahead.

Luncheon also said that no objections were offered for contracts in the fields of health, agriculture, public works and justice. In the health sector, a contract valued $30.03M and one valued $35.9M were also green-lighted. The first contract is for the procurement of tuberculosis drugs for the health ministry and the second for the provision of maintenance services for industrial air conditioning systems for the Georgetown hospital.

In the agriculture sector, no objections were offered for a $54.31M contract for the supply of materials for the construction of stainless steel gates for the East Demerara Water Conservancy Northern Relief Channel. A US$81,000 contract was also green-lighted for the provision of geo-textile tubes and scour aprons for the Guyana Mangrove Restoration Project.

In the public works sector a $273.2M contract was given the go-ahead for the construction of 630 metres of rip-rap sea defence at Abary and Profit, Region Five while a $115.4M was green-lighted for the construction of 250 metres of rip-rap sea defence at Hope, West Coast Berbice.

In addition, in the legal affairs sector, no objections were offered to a $20.5M contract for the rehabilitation of the building to accommodate the Chambers of the Director of Public Prosecutions and the Land Registry at New Amsterdam, Region Six.
