MOHALI, India, CMC- West Indies test and T20 Captain Darren Sammy ripped through the heart of Kings XI Punjab’s batting order to hand Sunrisers Hyderabad a comfortable 30 run win in the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Saturday.
Sammy grabbed four wickets for 22 runs in four overs as Sunrisers sealed their eight win and kept alive their chances of making the playoff.
The win came on the back of a fine knock by Parthiv Patel that set the platform for Sammy as Sunrisers got to 150 for seven before Punjab posted a paltry 120 for 9.
Adam Gilchrist (26) and Shaun Marsh (18) upped the ante with an array of aggressive strokes, before Hyderabad found a hero in Sammy.
Sammy started the Punjab batting slide in his haul that included strikes of Marsh and Gilchrist off consecutive deliveries. Sunrisers have now drawn level with Royal Challengers Bangalore, who are at the fourth spot in the points table, with 16 points.
The defeat has knocked a final nail into the IPL campaign of Kings XI Punjab on 10 points from 13 matches and all but out of the reckoning.
