President of the Guyana Hockey Board (GHB) Philip Fernandes netted a helmet trick while Attorney-at-Law and former national player Timothy Jonas added a double as All Greys defeated St Stanislaus 7-3 on Saturday as the John Fernandes Insurance Services second division league continued at the St. Stanislaus Recreational Facility.
Fernandes, himself a former national player and current coach of All Greys, scored his helmet trick in the 22nd, 25th, 48th and 62nd minutes while Jonas contributed to the victory with a double in the sixth and 51st minutes.
Alan Fernandes scored his team’s final goal in the 42nd minute.
Tiase Seepaul was on target for Saints with a double in the ninth and 59th minutes whilst Hilton Chester etched his name on the scorer’s sheet in the 54th minute.
In another match on Saturday, Hikers’ Shaquille Assanah poured in a seven-goal onslaught to help his team pummel Airbenders 8-0.
Leon Bacchus’s solo strike in the second minute gave Hikers the lead which they extended with Assanah recording a first half helmet trick in the sixth, 11th, 15th and 20th minutes respectively. Upon resumption, of physicality’s a further hat trick of goals by the energetic forward in the 37th, 39th and 57th minutes would complete the lopsided encounter.
Yesterday at the National Stadium Providence in the earlier encounter at 9:30am, Airbenders earned a walkover against Old Fort who did not have the sufficient amount of players to begin the match.
The elements would eventually have the final say in the late fixture which was scheduled for 4pm between the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) and St Stanislaus at the Carifesta Avenue Facility as the fixture was cancelled due to a waterlogged playing surface.
