Wiltshire, following in the footsteps of his father Garfield, a former Southern Caribbean squash champion, played unbeaten in the U11 and U13 categories before losing to Ben Meckdeci in the U15 final, to signal the arrival of a precocious talent.
The young Wiltshire did not drop a game against any of his opponents in the U11 competition which saw him playing a whopping 13 matches but he reserved his best squash for the U15 semi- final encounter against a Matthew Phang determined not to be defeated by the young upstart. But Wiltshire had other ideas. He stormed to an 11-1 win in the opening game only for Phang to take the second game 11-8.
Wiltshire regained the initiative with an 11-6 win in the third game but Phang was not going up without a fight and won the fourth game 11-8 setting the stage for an entertaining decisive fifth game.
Phang won the first four points; Wiltshire took the next five and Phang the next three for a 7-5 lead. Wiltshire, however moved to 10-7 before a never-say-die Phang won the next two points to leave the match on tenterhooks.
Wiltshire, though was not to be denied and won the game 11-9.
Makeda Harding won the girls’ U11 category and Sarah lewis the girls’U13 division.Taylor Fernandes was the winner of the girls’u15 category while Nyron Joseph and Akeila Wiltshire won the boys and girls’ U17 categories.
In the U19 category, former Caribbean U17 squash champion Jason Ray Khalil defeated fellow national player Steven Xavier three games to love to win the division while on the distaff side Mary Fung-A-Fat defeated national team mate Ashley De Groot in straight games 11-6, 11-8, 11-4 to be crowned champion.
