A century from Shaheed Gittens led Muslim Youth Organization (MYO) to a convincing 91-run victory over the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) in the Georgetown Cricket Association/New Building Society second-division limited overs competition on Saturday.
Playing at the MYO ground the visiting team won the toss and elected to bat after rain reduced the match to a 20-overs-a-side affair.
MYO scored 191-1 in their 20 overs thanks largely to a match defining partnership between Gittens and Zamal Khan. The pair came together after the host had lost Richard Latiff for 24 with the score 30-1 in the fifth over.
Gittens struck 18 fours and three sixes in an unbeaten 101 while Khan hit eight fours in 44 as the pair combined for a 161-run partnership for the second wicket.
For the GDF Jeremiah Harris, 1-22, was the lone wicket taker.
GDF in reply were bundled out for 100 in 19.4 overs. Damian Ross made 23 with four boundaries and Harris 18.
Gittens took 2-9, Imtiaz Pooran 2-15, and Shafeek Ishmael 2-17.
