When it was announced that Berbician bodybuilder, Dwayne Mars had posed and flexed his way to this year’s overall National Novices title on Sunday night the expression on his face was priceless and memorable.
As memorable as the night the Guyana Amateur Body Building Fitness Federation (GABBF) staged a successful and highly entertaining show at the Theatre Guild.
Mars, the 2012 Berbice Flex Night Champion, brought his talents to the city and dazzled the capacity crowd which was mostly made up of elegantly dressed boisterous females when he displayed his rippling abdominals, well-defined quadriceps and sculpted arms in his free posing routine and compulsory poses. After relegating Windero’s Gym, Abdool Shaheer to the runner up position in the light middleweight division, the crowd pleaser from Fitness Zone Gym again displayed his sharp physique made up of a barn-door back and a washboard mid section to slice through the competition in the overall Champion of Champions pose down.
The muscle man posed and flexed his physique with Kelvin Bobb-Semple (Under 21-year champion), Shahid Toloram (flyweight winner), Jermaine Bacchus (lightweight champion), Rawle Cole (welterweight winner) and heavyweight champion Anthony Pires. The females were sent into frenzy as the six ripped athletes put on a show in a free posing routine, jostling for the judges’ attention as they displayed rippling abdominals, well-defined quadriceps and sculpted arms.
When it was time to crown the king of the event, many patrons thought crowd favourite, Pires would have gotten the judges’ nod but it was Mars, smiling ear to ear, who was announced the winner.
The entertainment reached its climax when guest poser 2012, Mr. Barbados, Stevenson Belle invaded the stage to the Nicki Minaj’s hit song ‘Moment For Life’ and boy did the females have a moment of a lifetime.
When the 5-foot, 7 inch, 215 pound mass of striated muscle wearing pink briefs, danced and posed to loud satisfactory moans by the ladies he was only whetting their appetites. To the disbelief of some patrons, Belle entered the crowd and was up close and personal to the audience and some females used the opportunity to touch his massive frame while others almost fainted in the euphoria.
Belle’s 10-minute entertainment act lived up to his boast of being the best the local bodybuilding fans has ever seen.
Meanwhile, last year’s Flex Night, Miss Bikini winner, Shawnell Warner donned a multi coloured swimsuit and carved out a first place finish in the Miss Fitness Open category ahead of her Fitness Paradise Gym mate Stacy Small.
Windero’s, Candacy Lynch also relegated Small to the runner spot in the Miss Physique competition.
Sunday night’s winners and the top two runners-up of each category received cash prizes and trophies compliments of local beverage giant Banks DIH Limited.
The top finishers benefited from supplement hampers, compliments of Fitness Express.
Major contributions were also made by Guyana Lottery Company, DeSinco Trading, Sterling Products Limited, Trophy Stall, Sleep In and WindJammer International Hotels.
