The trial into the murder of Dweive Kant Ramdass has begun in the High Court at Suddie before Justice Franklyn Holder and a jury.
Murder accused and Guyana Defence Force Coastguards, Sherwyn Harte, Deon Greenidge and Delon Gordon are on trial for the August 2009 murder of Ramdass at Caiman Hole, East Bank Essequibo.
The trial began with a voir dire (trial within a trial) that was conducted for the number one accused, Harte, in relation to a statement he had given to police. Eight witnesses testified in the voir dire.
Hart’s voir dire concluded and another voir dire is being conducted for Gordon in relation to a statement he had also given to the police. This voir dire will continue today and another is expected to start for Greenidge once the one for Gordon is completed.
State prosecutor Judith Gildharie-Mursalin is presenting the state’s case while attorney Peter Hugh is representing the three accused.
Ramdass, who was a Bartica gold dealer, was allegedly robbed and then drowned by the three coastguard ranks between August 20 to 22.
