(Trinidad Express) An acting police corporal was shot and killed in Couva Tuesday night. Officer Terrence Abraham died at the Couva District Hospital, after being shot multiple times, in what is being described by investigators as a “hit”.
Abraham, of Battoo Avenue, Marabella, is the second police officer to be killed this year.
On February 19, Sergeant Hayden Manwaring was shot and killed while responding to a robbery report in San Fernando. Eight officers have been killed in the line of duty since 2002, according to statistics from the Crime and Police Analysis Branch of the Police Service.
Police say that at around 9 p.m, Abraham was driving along Milton Road in the company of a woman, when the side mirror of his vehicle was struck and damaged by a passing vehicle.
Witnesses told the Express that when Abraham stopped and got out of his vehicle to inspect the damage, he was shot by occupants of the other vehicle. Witnesses said there was no argument between parties, and they heard four explosions.
While the woman screamed in the front passenger seat, a wounded Abraham got back into his vehicle and was able to drive for about 100 feet before he slumped over the wheel. Police officers arrived and paramedics took Abraham to hospital.
Investigators do not believe that the killing of Abraham , who was based at the Chaguanas Traffic Branch, could be linked to a court matter.
Police have identified three suspects.
Three hours after Abraham’s shooting, an off duty police officer shot and killed a man who allegedly tried to rob the Pt Lisas branch of KFC. The officer, a member of the Anti Kidnapping Unit, was making a purchase when the suspect staged the robbery. There was an alleged exchange of gunfire and the suspect was killed. A gun was allegedly recovered from the suspect.
The incident happened at around 11.30 p.m.
