PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC-Manager of the West Indies “A” team, Colin Borde, has appealed to the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) to change the structure of the Regional Four-Day Tournament.
Borde’s appeal follows the conclusion of the four-day tournament which crowned news champions following Barbados’s lopsided win over Trinidad and Tobago in the finals.
He is insisting that the current structure is unfair and not conducive to good cricket.
“I don’t believe the format is correct. Jamaica won six consecutive games (in the preliminary phase) and were knocked out by a TT team (in the semis) that lost two games inside three days and one in two days,” Borde said in an interview with Newsday.
“I think the format should be changed and Jamaica should have won the league outright”.
The current structure of the regional four day tournament has a preliminary round robin format.
The top four teams then advance to the semi-finals with the first-place team facing the fourth seed in one semi-final and the second and third seeds in the other.
The winners will progress to the final.
“If you want to have a Big Four or Champion of Champions tournament then that’s okay but the league should be decided in a league format,” declared Borde, the former Trinidad and Tobago manager.
“This will reward consistency because four-day cricket is about being consistent”.
